Ski area Dachstein West
Russbach, approx. 11 km from Abtenau, offers the perfect access point to the interconnected Dachstein-West. The regional ski pass additionally offers you wonderful descents in various other ski areas, which are all connected with complementary ski buses. Especially beginners and wallowers, but also experts will find wonderful pistes which offer good diversity. The "Gaudipisten" (fun pistes) provide slalom descents with time tracking, snow-cross areas, wave and mogul pistes. And for whomever this is not enough "Gaudi" yet, can get a kick with some night skiing at the Ötscherlift.
The wide, well-developed pistes are ideal for beginners to make their first attempts at skiing. Families with children have long recognised that the ski region is perfectly attuned to their needs. Numerous offers for the little ski tots, several ski kindergartens and ski camps ensure plenty of fun for children.
In addition to the piste highlights, the Family Park and the new Kidsrun in Dachstein West guarantee variety and fun. The little ones get their money's worth in the children's areas. With super beginner slopes, magic carpets, race tracks and neighbouring ski schools, families are in good hands here.
The panorama ski circuit "Panoronda" with a total of 44 km of piste is a diverse experience on perfectly prepared and signposted pistes. Cosy huts and sun terraces are available for breaks and especially for enjoying the magnificent panorama view.

Night skiing Abtenau
Winter sports fans can turn night into day in the ski area Dachstein West. On the valley side of Gosau there is a small night ski area, that invites you to have fun on skis after the official opening hours. The lower section of the valley run at Ötscherlift is illuminated once per week for night skiing. The piste is approx. 1 km and, as a red piste, is challenging also for experienced skiers. Another part of the night skiing offer is the beginner's area at Brumsiland nearby the Hornspitzbahn lift valley station. On both pistes the extended opening hours from 18:30 - 20:30 are valid every Friday. The Hornspitz umbrella bar invites you to take a break or end the day after the evening skiing.Après ski Abtenau
Let yourself be pampered, not only by the culinary highlights, but also with some relaxing spa treatments. There are three spa facilities in close proximity to Abtenau: "Aqua Salza Golling", "Heiltherme Bad Vigaun" (healing thermal baths) and the "Therme Amadé".
Those who want to be more active can explore nature on a guided winter hike or on one of the ski tours in the Tennengebirge. The 3.2 km long toboggan run on the Karkogel with its floodlights even makes tobogganing fun possible until late in the evening. In keeping with the fun slopes, toboggans are not the only fast means of transport for holidaymakers: fun sports such as snowbiking, airboarding or snow biking can also be tried out in Abtenau. Ice skaters, on the other hand, are drawn to the local ice rink.

The "Dachstein West" ski region has a total of four different fun parks for younger visitors. Other fun park attractions include the "Ötscher Kids Park" in Gosau, the "Anna Park" in Annaberg and the "Rookie Park" in Russbach. Small waves, banked turns, jumps, boxes and rails are ideal for practising here.
