Once an isolated tributary valley of the Inn Valley, the Pitz Valley has developed into one of the most important ski regions in Tyrol. Framed by the imposing 3,000 m mountains of the Oetztal Alps, the interior Pitz Valley is very much high alpine. A mellow landscape towered over by smooth mountains forms the valley's entrance; the Pitztal Glacier (3,400 m), which is second in Tyrol only to the Wildspitze (3,768 m), is found in the top of the valley.
