Ski holidays Tignes - the ski region of superlatives!
Tignes
The French sports magazine "L'Equipe" has confirmed as much: Tignes (2,100 m) is the "most sporty resort". 85% of its guests visit for the sport, declares the magazine. Professionals come here to train and take part in international challenges. And "sporty" does not only apply to ski sports. Of course the vehicle-free resort attracts visitors mainly due to the glacier ski area at the Grande Motte (3,656 m), which is also open in summer, but that is definitively not al the resort has to offer. From ice skating and ice diving, via snowshoe hiking, heli-skiing or snowkiting, right up to ice climbing or a ride on a snow scooter - hardly any wish is left unfulfilled here. And all this even though the resort was actually set under water in 1952 when the new dam created the "Lac du Chevril" artificial lake. However, only 300 m higher up they created not only one of the highest located towns in Europe, but also one of the most modern ski resorts, offering 3 districts, all ideally located around a lake with ice sports possibilities, as well as a number of restaurants and après ski party facilities, which also attract younger people here.
Espace Killy
Welcome to "Espace Killy", where world champions exercise and everything revolves around one thing 9 1/2 months of the year: skiing! The alpine disciplines in the 1968 and 1992 Winter Olympics took place in the gigantic ski area with more than 300 kilometres of piste and 86 lifts. And in 2009 the region was host to the ski world championship! This 5-star ski area sprawls over three mountains and two valleys, which will make every skier’s heart race. Numerous varied runs, glacier pistes and forest descents can be found here, as well as world-famous racing pistes and mogul slopes, but also beginner pistes which are party accessible via free lifts. The high altitude (1,550 – 3,456 m) and one of the most attractive glaciers in the Alps guarantee high levels of snow.Travel Tignes
