Ski holidays Selva di Cadore - among skiing fun and history!

Selva di Cadore

If you want to experience the Dolomites away from the hustle and bustle, you are in the right place in the mountain resort of Selva di Cadore. The resort belongs to the Italian province of Belluno in the region of Veneto, and has 513 proud residents. In Val Fiorentina, the focus is on sport, culture and relaxation. Selva di Cadore offers different activities for the whole family and is a perfect starting point for trips out into the Dolomites. At an altitude of 1,350 m, Selva di Cadore makes up part of the ski are Civetta, which in turn belongs to the ski carousel Dolomiti Superski. However, the slopes in Alleghe and Zoldo are also easy to reach with the Pescul-Fertazza lift, which brings you to the sunny slopes, ski schools, numerous practice runs and trails. Routes that cannot be reached on skis can instead be explored on a snow shoe hike.

Selva di Cadore places great value on the history of the town, which can be learnt about in the "Vittorino Cazzetta" museum. For example, in 1987 a 7,500-year-old mummy, the "Mondeval Man", was found at an altitude of 2,150 m. In addition, you will also find Dolomite stone displaying impressions of dinosaur tracks in the museum. A visit to this museum is well worth it for anyone interested in history.

Civetta

The Civetta region is located in the fascinating mountain landscape of the Belluno Dolomites. The landscape is characterised by the highest peak of the Dolomites, the Marmolada (3,343 m), and other impressive mountains like the Monte Pelmo, but also through woodland and meadows, as well as traditional villages. Three wonderful valleys are part of the region: the Val di Zoldo, where the famous Italian ice cream "Gelato artigianale" originated from, the Val Fiorentina, with its ski resort Selva die Cadore, as well as the Val Cordevole, with its well-known holiday resort of Alleghe.

The region is named after its most prominent summit, the Civetta (Italian for owl). With a height of 3,220 m, it is one of the highest mountains in the Dolomites and is part of the mighty Civetta-Moiazza group in the north east of the Belluno province. The largest ski area in Veneto is located on Civetta: Ski Civetta. It comprises 80 km of pistes of all levels of difficulty and belongs to the Dolomiti Superski lift network. Around the mountain there are four picturesque mountain villages, each of which allowing for access to the ski area: Alleghe, Selva di Cadore, Zoldo and Palafavera.

On the north-west side in the Cordevole valley, the centre of tourism is concentrated in the main resort of Alleghe, which lies next to a idyllic mountain lake. Alleghe's neighbour and another important resort for skiing in Civetta is Selva di Cadore, located at an altitude of 1,317 m. A chair lift goes from there up into the ski area. On the other side of the mountain group, there's the Val di Zoldo with the municipality of Zoldo. From the Zoldo Alto and Palafavera resorts, access to the ski area is also possible.
