A small village in the south of Poland has grown to be one of the biggest ski regions in the whole country - and still Bialka Tatrzańska has kept its customs. Traditions, such as typical folk costumes and music, are still kept today. Many shops in the resort offer regional products, the restaurants serve regional and traditional specialities such as e.g. Oscypec (hard cheese made of sheep's milk). Especially families will enjoy a relaxing holiday in the quiet village that's approx. 20 km away from Zakopane. The Bialka Tatrzańska ski area comprises three areas: Kotelnica, Kaniówka and Bania. As a natural border between Poland and Slovakia the Tatra is a small, but alpine chain of mountains. The High Tatra is as a sub area of the Tatra the highest elevation of the western Carpathian mountains and stretches itself to approx. two third on Slovakian and approx. one third on Polish ground. With its breathtaking views, steep peaks, sharp cliffs, deep ravines and crystallised seas it builds the most attractive part of the Tatra. Its Polish as well as its Slovakian part has officially been declared a National park and a biosphere reserve by the UNESCO. The under and middle part of the mountain is covered in fragrant pine forests that accommodate a rich wildlife. The highest peak of the Polish Tatra , also being the highest mountain of Poland Rysy, arises at an altitude of 2, 500 m above sea level. Numerous glacier seas also add to the beauty of the mountain region. A further aspect of the Tatra is the 650 legends of surrounding caves, whereof 6 are accessible to the public. The are located in the Koscieliska valley and can be reached through wide hiking routes. The mountains of the High Tatra do not only offer a lot of nature beauties, but also convince with ideal conditions for winter sports.
